The problem

Load shifts through the day, and harmonics, imbalance and losses only show up when measured over time, at the right point. At a solar plant, output depends on radiation and on panel soiling: without measuring both, you cannot tell whether a drop comes from the sky or from the panels.

How to choose

For diagnostics, use a portable three-phase analyzer with flexible coils; to watch a switchboard, a fixed meter with Modbus. A USB logger records one signal; multichannel loggers combine several, and some transmit over cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or LoRaWAN, with email or SMS alarms. For pyranometers, compare the ISO 9060:2018 class (A, B or C); silicon cell models respond faster but are less accurate under cloudy skies.
