FieldScout CM 1000 NDVI Meter
Aim the FieldScout CM 1000 at leaves or a turf canopy and it immediately reads the red (660 nm) and near-infrared (840 nm) spectral bands, then works out the Normalized Difference Vegetative Index (NDVI).
That lets you spot plant stress before it becomes apparent through visual monitoring.

How it measures
The meter relies on the reflectance of 660 nm and 840 nm light. It uses 4 photodiodes: 2 capture ambient light and 2 capture the light reflected by the sample, whether plant leaves or a turf grass canopy. Results are given as NDVI on a scale of -1 to 1, each measurement takes 2 seconds, and repeatability is ±5% of reading.
Working distance and spot size
The field of view is a cone spanning 12 to 72 in from the lens. Keep at least 12 in (30.5 cm) away; past 72 in, accuracy is unknown. The diameter of the sample area grows with distance:
- 12 in (30.5 cm) from the lens: 0.53 in (1.35 cm)
- 18 in (45.7 cm): 1.21 in (3.07 cm)
- 48 in (1.22 m): 4.65 in (11.8 cm)
Memory and power
Non-volatile memory holds 3,250 measurements without GPS/DGPS, or 1,350 with GPS/DGPS. Transferring data requires the software and a PC interface cable. The meter runs on 2 AAA batteries (included), good for approx. 3,000 measurements.
