FieldLogger is a data logger for demanding jobs that reads analog, digital and other variable types with high resolution and speed. It is versatile, powerful and still cost effective, offering high performance and wide connectivity while remaining easy to set up and operate.

Its 8 configurable analog inputs accept thermocouples, Pt100, Pt1000, voltage and current signals, and they sit alongside 2 relay outputs and 8 digital ports that can each be set as input or output. Up to 128 math channels process the measured values, and up to 32 alarm events can trigger outputs, emails or SNMP traps.

Overview

Communication and storage

The RS485 interface runs Modbus RTU as master or slave; in master mode it reads and logs up to 64 external channels. A 10/100 Mbps Ethernet port provides browser access (HTTP), FTP (client and server), email sending (SMTP), SNMP and Modbus TCP.

One USB interface links the logger to a computer for configuration, monitoring and data download, while a second USB port takes a flash drive for data retrieval. The basic memory holds 512k logs and can be expanded considerably with an SD card.

HMI and software

A dedicated color HMI can be fitted to the unit or installed remotely for local indication and configuration. The user-friendly configurator software connects over Ethernet, USB or RS485 and also handles on-line monitoring, download of logged data and export to spreadsheets and other formats.

Remote mounting kit

The FieldLogger HMI (human-machine interface) can be mounted away from the unit and connected to it by a cable. This kit makes the job simple: it supplies every part needed to fix the HMI to a panel and connect it to the FieldLogger to read the data of interest.

Inputs and outputs

  • 8 universal analog input channels: thermocouples, V, mV, mA, Pt100 and Pt1000
  • Reading and logging rates of up to 1000/second
  • 24 bit A/D conversion resolution
  • 8 digital I/Os, each configurable as input or output
  • 2 relay outputs (NO, NC and common)
  • 24 Vdc output that powers up to eight 4-20 mA transmitters

Networking

  • RS485 interface (Modbus master or slave). As a master it reads up to 64 registers from other slaves, and those values can feed logging, alarms or math operations.
  • Ethernet services: alarm warning emails (SMTP), web pages with channel and status information (HTTP), download of logged data via FTP (client and server), channel and status values for network management software (SNMP and traps), and Modbus communication over Ethernet (Modbus TCP).
  • USB-device interface for configuration, monitoring and download.
  • USB-host interface for retrieving logged data to a USB flash drive.

Alarms and virtual channels

  • Up to 32 configurable alarms. Their actions can include activating relays or digital outputs, sending emails to multiple recipients, sending SNMP traps, and starting or stopping logging.
  • Up to 128 virtual channels with basic math functions applied to other channels: sum, subtraction, multiplication, division, logic (AND, OR and exclusive OR), square root and power.

  • AC power: 100 to 240 Vac
  • Optional DC power (2011): 19 to 30 Vdc

Detachable human-machine interface (optional)

  • Keypad and color TFT QVGA display
  • RS485 communication with the FieldLogger

Logging
