Water Quality

Conductivity, pH, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, chlorophyll, level and flow, in multiparameter probes and loggers.

From a few drops on a pocket meter to a probe left in a well for months, the right instrument depends on where the water is and how often you need to measure it.

The problem

The water in a river, a well or an aquaculture tank changes through the day and with rain, and a single sample only shows that moment. That is why it is measured in two ways: as spot checks in the lab or in the field, and continuously, with the sensor in the water.

The variables

  • pH, ORP and ions such as nitrate and ammonium
  • conductivity, salinity, TDS and resistivity
  • dissolved oxygen, turbidity, chlorophyll and dissolved carbon dioxide
  • temperature, level, depth and flow

How to choose

For spot analysis, there are pocket and benchtop meters; in the field, portable probes for profiles and probes that log on their own battery. Fixed sensors with SDI-12, 4-20mA or Modbus outputs connect to data loggers that transmit over cellular, Wi-Fi, LoRaWAN or radio links, with solar power as an option. For aquaculture, some systems switch relays. Also compare field-swappable sensors, automatic cleaning and titanium bodies for great depths.
