Too little or too much water

A plant short of water ends up with nutrient deficiencies, stunted growth and wilting. A plant given too much is more exposed to disease pressure and copes worse with dry spells later on; in extreme cases, excess water suffocates the plant and kills its roots.

How it works

• Capacitance-type sensor that measures soil volumetric water content (VWC) and reacts at once to changes
• Calibration suited to mineral soils and to soilless growing media
• Fits into a 3/4 in (1.9 cm) hole for easy installation, either permanently or for spot measurements
• Read with the FieldScout® Soil Sensor Reader (Item 6466) or with WatchDog® Series 2000 and 1000 stations
• Up to 8 sensors per station

• Works with: WatchDog weather stations and the FieldScout soil moisture reader (standard interface)
• Measures from 0% VWC up to saturation, at a resolution of 0.1% VWC
• Accuracy: 3% VWC @ EC < 8 mS/cm
• Supply: 3 to 5V @ 6 to 10 mA
• Signal: 0.5 - 1.5V analog voltage with a 3V excitation, ratiometric when other excitation voltages are used
• Cable: 6 ft (1.8 m) or 20 ft (6 m) as standard, and it can be extended up to 50 ft (15 m)
• Sensing area of 2.4 in (6 cm) x 0.8 in (2 cm)
