Temperature

DS1922L Thermochron iButton Temperature Data Logger, -40°C to +85°C

Reference
DS1922L

Rugged and self-sufficient, the DS1922L iButton® temperature logger measures temperature and stores each result in a protected memory section at a rate the user defines. It holds a total of 8192 8-bit or 4096 16-bit readings taken at regular intervals from 1s to 273hrs, plus 512 bytes of SRAM for application-specific information and 64 bytes for calibration data.

A logging mission can start right away, after a user-defined delay or when a temperature alarm occurs, and memory and control functions can be password protected.

Overview

Communication and mounting

The DS1922L is set up through, and talks to, a host computing device over the 1-Wire® serial protocol, which needs just one data lead and a ground return. Each unit carries a factory-lasered, guaranteed-unique 64-bit registration number for absolute traceability. The stainless-steel package stands up to dirt, moisture and shock, and accessories let you mount the DS1922L on almost any object, including containers, pallets and bags.

Special features

  • Wakes up automatically, measures temperature and stores values in 8KB of datalog memory in 8- or 16-bit format
  • Digital thermometer with 8-bit (0.5°C) or 11-bit (0.0625°C) resolution
  • Accuracy of ±0.5°C from -10°C to +65°C with software correction
  • Water resistant, or waterproof inside a DS9107 iButton capsule (exceeds Water Resistant 3 ATM requirements)
  • Sampling rate from 1s up to 273hrs
  • Programmable recording start delay, after an elapsed time or upon a temperature alarm trip point
  • Programmable high and low trip points for temperature alarms
  • Fast access to alarmed devices through the 1-Wire conditional search function
  • 512 bytes of general-purpose memory plus 64 bytes of calibration memory
  • Two-level password protection of all memory and configuration registers
  • Talks to the host over a single digital signal at up to 15.4kbps at standard speed or up to 125kbps in Overdrive mode, using the 1-Wire protocol
  • Operating range: -40 to +85°C

Features shared by all iButtons

  • Digital identification and information by momentary contact
  • A unique, factory-lasered 64-bit registration number ensures error-free device selection and absolute traceability, since no two parts are alike
  • Built-in multidrop controller for 1-Wire networks
  • Chip-based data carrier that stores information compactly
  • Data can be accessed while the device is fixed to the object
  • The button shape self-aligns with cup-shaped probes
  • The durable stainless-steel case, engraved with the registration number, withstands harsh environments
  • Easy to attach with a self-stick adhesive backing, latch by its flange or lock with a ring pressed onto its rim
  • A presence detector recognizes when a reader first applies voltage
  • Meets UL#913 (4th Edit.); intrinsically safe apparatus approved under the Entity Concept for Class I, Division 1, Group A, B, C and D locations

Applications

The DS1922L suits long-term temperature monitoring of any object it is attached to or shipped with, such as fresh produce, medical drugs and supplies, and it can also be used in refrigerators and freezers.

Out of the factory, the DS1922L sealing is equivalent to IP56. Aging and use can degrade the seal over time, so for applications with significant exposure to liquids, sprays or similar environments, placing the Thermochron in the DS9107 iButton capsule is recommended.
