280-SP Series Silicon Cell Pyranometers

Reference
280-SP

For applications that don't call for the higher accuracy, and higher cost, of a thermopile pyranometer, the 280-SP Series silicon cell pyranometers are an excellent fit. They cost less and respond faster, although their error grows under cloudy skies.

Sensitive to shortwave radiation across 360-1120 nm, they are calibrated to estimate total shortwave radiation over the full solar spectrum. Each sensor combines a cast acrylic diffuser, a photodiode and signal processing circuitry potted solid inside an anodized aluminum housing.

Overview

Design features

  • Dome-shaped sensor head (diffuser and body) lets dew and rain run off, keeping the diffuser clean
  • Cosine correction for accurate readings even at low zenith levels
  • Rugged construction for continuous outdoor use in any climate
  • Low power draw and quick response
  • Optional in-line connector, 30 cm from the sensor head, for easier maintenance

Typical applications

  • Agriculture
  • Meteorology
  • Solar energy
