Built to last

Every part of the HD2015 is made from corrosion-resistant materials, giving a reliable, sturdy and durable rain gauge. For accurate readings in cold weather, or during and after snowfall, a heated version is available: its heating system switches on automatically at around +4 °C and stops snow from building up and ice from forming.

Measuring principle

A tipping bucket sits on a metal base. The collector cone, fixed to the aluminum cylinder, guides rainwater into the bucket; once the predefined level is reached, the calibrated bucket tips under its own weight and empties. As it rotates, the normally closed reed contact opens for a fraction of a second and sends an impulse to the counter.

Rainfall is worked out by counting how many times the bucket empties, since the reed contacts open each time the bucket swings from one section to the other. The impulses can be detected and recorded by a data logger such as the HD2013-DB, or by a pulse counter.

Maintenance

A removable filter in the collector cone, easy to clean during routine maintenance, stops leaves and other debris from blocking the end of the hole. The cone also has a non-stick coating for a better water flow.
