HD2013 Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge

Sturdy and dependable, the HD2013 is made entirely of corrosion-resistant materials so that it lasts. To keep measurements accurate in cold weather, and during and after snowfall, a heated version is available: the heating switches on by itself at around +4 °C and stops snow from building up or ice from forming.

How it works

A tipping bucket sits on a metal base. The collector cone, fixed to the aluminum cylinder, guides rainwater into the bucket; when the water reaches the preset level, the calibrated bucket tips over under its own weight and empties. As it tips, the normally closed reed contact opens for a fraction of a second and sends an impulse to the counter.

Rainfall is worked out by counting how many times the bucket empties: the normally closed reed contacts open at the moment the bucket swings from one section to the other. The impulses can be detected and recorded by a data logger such as the HD2013-DB Delta OHM, or by a pulse counter.
