Built for field work where many water parameters must be checked at once, the AP-5000 is the larger model among the advanced portable multiparameter probes from Aquaread. A set of standard sensors comes included and, as with the smaller model in the line, extra sensors can be fitted to suit the job.

The housing is tough marine-grade aluminum with a hard-anodized finish, so the probe can work in both fresh and salt water.

Four unrestricted auxiliary ports

There are 4 auxiliary sockets for adding sensors to the probe. Unlike those on the AP-2000, none of these ports is restricted: any of them can hold either an ion-selective electrode (ISE) or an optical sensor, in whatever mix you need, which opens up a very large number of possible sensor combinations.

Each auxiliary port ships closed with a blanking plug; unscrew it to fit an extra electrode.

Cable options

AquaConn connectors let the probe run on different cable lengths. The standard lengths are 3, 10, 20 and 30 m.

Using the AP-5000 as a water level logger

The built-in depth sensor reaches an accuracy of 0.5%FS, close to what a dedicated water level logger delivers, such as the LeveLine-ECO (0.2%FS) or the titanium LeveLine (0.1%FS).

While conductivity reads zero, depth is zeroed automatically.
Once conductivity rises above 0, the probe starts calculating its depth.
Lower the probe to the required depth, secure it, and zero the depth again from the GPS Aquameter.
From then on, the AP-5000 picks up small changes in water level and displays them as a positive or negative change.
