To follow goods from dispatch to destination, GSM loggers send readings and location during the trip, and some also record light and shock. USB models, with or without a display, and compact water-resistant loggers travel inside the package and are read on arrival, with no network needed.

There are also cellular loggers for telemetry and mobile monitoring, and visibility detectors that measure the light scattered by smoke, fog, rain or snow.
