Applications

Low-cost miniature data loggers are great tools for tagging wildlife in behavioral studies and identifying patterns. Infrastructure construction often requires environmental studies to identify how and when living species will be affected, and knowing their behavior is a good way to protect them.

To study bird nesting behavior, temperature and light are good indicators. A small logger hidden inside the nest records the nest temperature, and the light sensor detects whenever the bird is covering the eggs.

Laboratory mice or small mammals used to assess the effects of drugs and pathogens can be tagged with the miniature temperature logger. With very high resolution, these devices can detect very small rises in body temperature caused by the metabolism’s reaction to any stress factor.
